Waterborne heating system in C40 Green

The heating is done via a water-borne heating system with radiators placed under the windows. The standard heat source is an air-to-water heat pump, but district heating (secondary) or a pellet burner are also possible heat sources.

Water and sewers

System Description. External cold water is connected to a console-mounted water meter with turn-off valves in the technology room. Water is then fed to sanitary installations in the C-modules through external piping. The C-module is prepared for the installation of an optional kitchen or sink. Standard toilets and washstands. If electric heating is used, hot water is supplied by a 55 liter water heater in the maintenance room, alternatively, in the technology room. The spill-water piping is situated in the floor structure with a common external connection under the technology room.


System description. Fan-governed in- and outgoing air flow with a rotary heat exchanger for energy recovery. The ventilation system preheating battery is water-borne. The ventilation equipment is placed in the technology room of the C module. Alternatively, the machinery can be externally mounted or individual machinery be installed in each classroom. Outgoing air is transferred from overhead vents to the corridor roof cover. The air is evacuated centrally at the C-module, as well as through WCs and the maintenance room, to go through the heat exchanger. Air flows are dimensioned according to the needs of the project.

Load-bearing system

C40 Geen can be dimensioned for up to three floors. The roof structure has strong gluebeams, the length of the modules and the modules are therefore free of load-bearing inner walls. Between the main gluebeams are secondary beams. Gluebeam pillars at corners transfer loads to the foundation or the floor below. The floor substructure is constructed of wooden beams. The floor is reinforced with steel UNP profiles along the bottom perimeter. Modules are provided with lifting attachments on top. Allowed for use in snow zone 3.


Lighting is dimensioned for a level of 350-500 lux. All rooms have up and downlight through fluorescent tube armatures with pull switches, 220 cm above floor HF equipment for T5 energy tubes, 3 x 28 W. Corridors have recessed fluorescent lighting, 1 x 28 W/T5. The HWC has a movement detection device and energy-saving bulbs. Maintenance and technology rooms have energy-saving bulbs.


The foundation is laid on wooden pressure plates and shim frames. Alternatively, concrete tiles and Leca blocks can be used.


A cooling system that lowers the temperature of in-going air is optional. Dimensioned after the needs of the project.

Fire protection

The buildings are considered to be one- or two-floor in fire class BR2. Modules are constructed of a preassembled wooden framework, with REI 30 floor and roof beams, and outer walls. The surfaces of corridors and evacuation routes have a class I flameproof coating. Evacuation through designated evacuation routes or openable windows on the ground floor. If a second floor is added, outer evacuation steel staircases are installed.

Electrical installations

General. The group central has automatic fuses for lighting and heating, type KB system (Dynamic Workplace Power). Four grounded electric outlets are placed on each outer wall of a module.


Environmental verification and classification. All materials used in the construction of C40 modules are verified against a national Swedish environmental data base of construction material, a system that connects to the SS-EN 14001 environmental certification. This facilitates a process of continuous improvement.
